Construction industry could benefit from UK Skills advice February 8, 2010

Workers in the construction industry could find that undertaking training and gaining new skills will help their personal development, job prospects and businesses.

Simon Bartley, chief executive of UK Skills, recently revealed that the importance of skills to individuals and companies has "never been higher", explaining that those that invest in training could even help them survive the recession.

Following the announcement of the launch of the National Training Awards 2010, which has been organised on behalf of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, he said: "Everybody now realises that for the United Kingdom - as a country, as employers and as individuals – development of skills is something that is core to their future."

The importance of skills has also been highlighted by the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians (Ucatt).

A spokesperson for the organisation recently called for the provision of more apprenticeship places within the construction industry.
