Jewson Environmental Policy
Jewson is committed to continuously improving our environmental performance, preventing pollution and increasing the positive impact occurring as a result of our activities. We strive to meet, and where possible, exceed applicable environmental legislation.

To implement this policy Jewson is committed to the following:
- To implement and operate a formal environmental management system
- To set and monitor environmental objectives and targets in order to reduce environmental impact
- To integrate environmental considerations into business decision making at all levels
- To consult with customers, suppliers and employees on environmental issues
- To develop procurement policies and address environmental issues relating to our suppliers and the products we distribute
- To formally review the environmental policy at regular intervals, updating where required
- To provide awareness and responsibility training that is made available to every employee on environmental policy matters
- To assign environmental responsibility throughout Jewson

ISO 14001 is now the universal Jewson standard
Last year, 30 Jewson outlets had attained ISO 14001 accreditation. Twelve months on, that status applies to every branch.
This incredible achievement was accomplished by implementing a formal environmental management system across the business, and making improvements to the branch network as required, including:
- Reducing electricity and gas usage
- Closing environmentally inefficient treatment plants and mills
- Purchasing more environmentally-friendly, self-bunded diesel tanks
- Improving recycling and waste management facilities and training for staff
- Thoroughly checking branches for water leaks
- Creating designated areas for hazardous waste
Future plans
We will continue to use ISO14001 as a vehicle to drive cultural change within the business, targeting individuals and branches to reduce fossil fuel use.
We aim to extend this programme of improvement to include all Graham branches by early 2010 and the entire Saint-Gobain Building Distribution network by 2012.
