Responsible Procurement

Low cost country sourcing

As we source product from low-cost countries, we recognise that working conditions differ on a country-to-country basis. Jewson, as part of SGBD, is however committed to sourcing products responsibly and operates a code of conduct detailing the way in which we would like supplier factories to be managed.

This takes into consideration issues such as wages, hours of work, discrimination, forced labour, health and safety, child labour, terms of employment and freedom of association. We hope through positive dialogue to encourage a healthy working relationship with our factories and improve working conditions. We also want to involve all those in the supply chain - so they achieve positive results from trading with us.

We are committed to the following:

  • All factories are evaluated to ensure that their processes, working practices and environmental credentials reach an acceptable standard
  • Once a product specification has been agreed with a potential supplier, samples are made available for inspection. These inspections ensure that the product meets the agreed specification and serve to highlight any potential issues
  • Products are tested to ensure that they conform to all relevant British and international standards
  • All products are continually checked onto an internationally recognised sampling plan to ensure ongoing conformity with the specification
  • Through these laid down procedures, Jewson seeks to ensure a solid sourcing framework is in place
