Water Saving
When one third of our water usage is in baths, showers and
basins, and almost as much again is used to flush toilets, there is
a clear opportunity to reuse filtered 'grey' bathwater to fill
toilet cisterns.
Rainwater collection is another obvious available saving, using
rain from rooftops or 'welling' in a high water table. Sustainable
Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) aim to control pollution caused by
run-off, which washes pollutants into sensitive fresh water
sources. In effect, concreted urban areas restrict the chance for
rain to soak away naturally. Legislation changes have affected the
way open ground can now be covered. Jewson supplies materials which
allow natural drainage on hardstanding areas.
