Case Study: Golden Gates Housing

Golden Gates Housing (GG H) established a major supply contract
with Jewson in 2005 through the use of an Office of Government
Commerce (OGC) Buying Solutions framework agreement. Under the
partnership, Jewson opened an on-site dedicated store in May 2006,
exclusively for the use of GG H. The store carries a bespoke stock
range designed to meet GGH's specific requirements.
One of only 10 Social Housing Organisations in the country to be
presented with this prestigious award, GG H recognises the
contribution made by its partnership with Jewson, which has
delivered over £130,000 savings.
Over the last few years Jewson has worked with GG H to close and
relocate three existing stores facilities. These have been
rationalised into one new facility which is leased and managed by
Jewson. The new facility incorporates a store, offices and meeting
A bespoke core stock range and comprehensive stock management
system has been put in place to manage stock availability for GG
H's fleet of 96 operatives and reduce reliance on local third tier
suppliers. An e-business facility has also been implemented which
provides monthly consolidated invoicing, along with bespoke order
fields that enable the data to be loaded directly onto the GG H IT
system. This reduces both paperwork and the time spent on
procurement. These solutions have generated significant cash and
efficiency savings for GGH, enabling its team to carry out more
repairs each day.

The OGC has assessed that the partnership with Jewson is
delivering overall savings of £70,000 on material costs and £60,000
on tendering and managing the contract. Further actions taken to
reduce expenditure include the relocation of two thirds of GG H's
operational staff to the new shared Jewson store facility, which
alone generates £50,000 annual savings.
