Flooring and Tiles

Wall coverings and flooring make a big difference to the feel of a room, so they are an important consideration when designing your project.

Ceramic tiles remain one of the most popular and practical choices for walls.

  • They are durable and easy to maintain - making them a practical choice for high moisture areas, such as bathrooms and kitchens.
  • Tiles are relatively easy to install and maintain.
  • A huge range of patterns, shapes and sizes are available to create the look you want.

Through our sister company CTD, Jewson offers you one of the widest ranges of tiles in Europe. Smooth, larger format tiles in lighter colours are currently very popular, but our range includes options to complement any décor style.

Through our sister company Saint-Gobain Glass, we can also supply sleek, shiny and fashionable sheets of coloured glass, currently very popular in showers and ultra-modern kitchens.

As well as quality wall tiles, our extensive range includes a wide variety of floor tiles. Tiling a floor adds an individual look to any room and out-performs most other floors on durability.

Jewson offers a wide selection, including fashionable large format, cream and natural stone flooring such as limestone and travertine.

Wooden Flooring

Jewson has been supplying wooden flooring for over 175 years. Owing to its natural warmth and individual beauty, wooden flooring has never gone out of fashion.

We have three different wooden flooring solutions, so there's an option to suit every budget and lifestyle.

  • Solid wood - gives a natural look to your room and is as functional as it is beautiful.
  • Engineered wood - as easy to install as a laminate, with the beauty of a real wood top layer and the stability of a composite.
  • Laminate flooring - easy to install, low maintenance and available in a wide range of styles to complement any décor.

Choosing The Right Flooring

There are four main considerations to take into account when choosing the flooring for your self build project. These are lifestyle, budget, style and degree of use.

Lifestyle is an important factor in your choice because different types of flooring require varying amounts of care. Hardwood is easy to clean but requires periodic refinishing and can be damaged by spilt liquids. Laminate flooring requires less maintenance and is easy to clean, whilst a tiled floor is easy to take care of, but it does need sealing about once a year.

When it comes to budget, hardwood is the most expensive option. Although it will cost you more than laminate, it's more durable and requires very little maintenance so it may well prove more economical in the long term. The other option is engineered wood flooring, which has a real wood top layer but is cheaper and easier to install than solid wood flooring. Tiling is usually easier to install so you could save money by reducing labour.

The style of your house can also determine the best flooring for you. If your project is formal and elegant, hardwood flooring will add to this look. Both ceramic tile and laminate, however, are at home in nearly any type of build.

The final factor that you should take into consideration is degree of use: what kind of usage will the flooring receive? If it's a very high traffic area, it may be wise to choose a flooring material that will stand up well to heavy use. Laminates usually fit the bill here, as can ceramic tile, whereas hardwood is not such an ideal choice for these types of areas.

No matter what types of flooring you decide upon, Jewson can provide you with exactly what you require. And as a leading builders' merchant, Jewson also supplies a wide range of flooring accessories and all the tools required for a professional installation.
