The Sandpaper 230 x 280mm (L x W) Coarse Light Brown is ideal for smoothing wood, plaster, painted surfaces and varnished surfaces. The product is used to remove material from surfaces, either to make them smoother (for example, in painting and wood finishing), to remove a layer of material (such as old paint), or sometimes to make the surface rougher (for example, as preparation for gluing). The coarse sandpaper has a 40 to 60 grit that is suitable for heavy sanding and stripping. The grit number of a sanding product indicates the size of the abrasive particles. The lower grit numbers means that larger abrasive particles are stuck to the paper to remove more material. The sandpaper is made of abrasive minerals like aluminium oxide or garnet that are glued onto a paper backing. Aluminium oxide is insoluble in water and its crystalline form helps in cutting or scraping.
